2013 Camp AcheAway

July 28-August 2, 2013

 

Campers

Who: Children ages 6 to 15 who are living with juvenile arthritis or a related disease

What: A no cost camp created especially for children living with juvenile arthritis

Where: Camp Twin Lakes, Will-A-Way located in Winder, GA at Fort Yargo State Park

 Why: Come meet and make friends with other children who are facing the challenges of juvenile arthritis. Also, participate in a wide range of activities including fishing and crafts, boating, swimming, archery, and much more.

                      

 Camp AcheAway has something for everyone!

 

Application Process

1.    Apply online or send in a paper application

2.    Complete follow up paperwork including waivers, immunization form, and medical form (to be signed by your child’s doctor)

3.    Your child’s application will be submitted to the planning committee for review

4.    You will be notified if your child has been accepted or not

*Acceptance is on a first come first serve basis once the application and ALL follow up paperwork has been received by the Camp Director.

Counselor in Training (CIT)

Who:  Teens ages 16-18 who are living with juvenile arthritis or a related disease

 What:  A counselor in training program to promote leadership skills

 Why:  To gain experience and leadership skills in providing children with a life changing experience

 

*This is a competitive process and we only have spots for 4 male CITs and 6 female CITs.  The number of CITs that we can accept is based on the number of cabins with the appropriate age in which to place them in.  Having been a CIT in the past does not guarantee that you will be accepted to the CIT program this summer.

 

Application Process

1.    Complete the CIT application and 2 reference forms [one reference should be from someone in the community (e.g. teacher, school counselor, youth leader, etc.) and the other should be from a non-related adult]

2.    If your teen’s application is selected he or she will be asked to participate in a group interview that will be held in late April

3.   You will be notified if your teen has been accepted or not in early May

4.   If your teen is accepted, you will be emailed the link to the camp application, which will need to be completed by June 14th and the follow up documents, which will need to be completed by June 28th

5.   All accepted CITs will attend a portion of the volunteer training which will be held on a Saturday in July

Counselors

Counselors are the building blocks of the camp.  Thanks to counselors we can continue to offer this program to the children at a very minimal cost.  Camp AcheAway is seeking counselors who are self-motivated and willing to go the extra mile to provide an exceptional experience that will be talked about for years to come. Come join us in giving children a life changing experience!

Age requirement: Minimum age of 19 (exceptions are made only by the Camp Director)

Medical Staff

Camp AcheAway is seeking medical staff (volunteers) who are licensed to practice in Georgia as an RN, MD, NP, or PA-C who are available to serve as part of the resident medical staff team for the week of camp.  Primary responsibilities include checking in/out medications and dispensing to campers as well as attending to non-emergent injuries and other situations during camp. Come join us in giving children a life changing experience!

Requirement: Licensed to practice in GA as RN, NP, MD, or PA-C (nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, and medical students will be considered. Please consult Camp Director for more specific information).** Individuals do not need to work in pediatrics.**

 

Depending on your availability, consider helping one day or the entire week. Here are our specific needs:

·  Camper medicine check-in and sorting for the week on Sunday (2pm-8pm)

·  Lead camp medical provider (week-long commitment as on-site medical staff)

Support medical staff during camp week (1-2 day commitments and could rotate with other staff from Sun-Friday)
