JA Summer Camps

Summer Camps with the Arthritis Foundation Northeast Region

Our one-week camps for children diagnosed with JA and other rheumatic diseases offer a place for children with arthritis to have fun, make new friends and learn how to take control of their disease. Our camps, based in upstate New York, New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, provide quality care for kids with arthritis and allow them to participate in activities that are adapted to their abilities. All activities are designed so that every camper can have success.

Campers must receive medical clearance by their physician prior to attending any of the camps. Costs for each camp vary; some are free.  Scholarships are available for others. Camp slots fill quickly so be sure to register early.  To learn about scholarships, for more information or to register, contact the staff members listed next to each camp:

What campers have to say:

“Camp is a place where I have grown from an insecure child to a confident and hopeful teen. When I’m there, there’s no need to explain my disease; the understanding comes naturally to all of the great people there.”
Monica, 16 years old

“Camp is about laughing, having fun being goofy, being who you want to be and lots of other things.  Camp is my home away from home.”
Tim, age 10

“With my disease, I limp a lot.  Normally in school, I get stared at, but at camp I fit in.  Even though everyone is different at camp, this is one place where I can just be myself.”
Brianna, age 13

What parents have to say:

“Camp was a wonderful experience for my daughter.   She has the opportunity to meet and spend time with children who have the same ups and downs as she does.  At home, before camp, she would often say that she was the only kid who takes medicines.  At camp, she met lots of other kids who take meds too. She can’t wait for next year!”

“Mike loves attending camp, he has made great friends, gained self-confidence and knows more about arthritis.  He enjoys the activities and feels great when he can help out new campers.”
