Going out to eat should be a treat, but instead it’s often the start of a guilt trip that ends with diner’s remorse. Here are some helpful hints for how to stay the course when someone else is doing the cooking:
A restaurant that serves oversized entrée portions usually has appetizers that can make a meal. Go for light choices, like a single crab cake, shrimp cocktail and a salad or soup.
Control calories and cost by sharing with a friend. Request that the kitchen divvy up one entrée into two or ask the waiter to box half the food before it’s delivered to your table, and set it aside to take home for another meal.
Order from the kid’s menu and get half-portions. Most establishments won’t mind that you’re no longer 12. Some places will sell half-portions of anything on the adult menu.
