What Is It?

Polyarteritis Nodossa (Poly-are-ter-eye-tis nuh-Doh-sa) and Wegener's Granulomatosis (weh-geh-ners gran-you-low-ma-toe-sis) are diseases in which inflammation of the blood vessels (vasculitis) occurs. Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) affects small and medium sized arteries in tissues and organs throughout the body. Wegener's granulomatosis involves inflammation of small and medium sized blood vessels throughout the body. There are several types including:

  • Hypersensitivity vasculitis (vas-ku-lie-tiss)
  • Kawasaki disease (ka-wa-sa-key)
  • Polyarteritis (poly-are-ter-eye-tis)
  • Takayasu's arteritis (ta-ka-yasus)
  • Vasculitis (va-ku-lie-tiss) in arthritis

What Are the Symptoms?

Symptoms can vary widely depending on the type of disease. The outcomes of each of these diseases depends on which disease you have and how far it has progressed.
