Volunteering with Leadership
Lori Tinkler is not a passive volunteer. From her first involvement with the chapter more than five years ago, she has always been one to take charge and provide leadership, no matter what the project was. She was the top fundraiser at the chapter's first Hero of the Year event, assembled one of the top Arthritis Walk teams, hosted one of the most generous tables at the Commitment to a Cure breakfast, and started a new fundraising event from scratch, building it to the chapter's largest event of the year. The Arthritis Foundation Tee Off Party and Golf Tournament was a sellout and raised more than $90,000 in 2006 and, behind Lori's leadership again this year, looks to be an even bigger event in 2007.
"I enjoy challenging myself and the other committee members to see if we can raise more money and involve more people in our golf tournament each year," she admitted. "This year we have our work cut out for us because of last year's success!" Lori has drawn on a lot of her contacts to grow the event each year. As CEO of Applied Measurement Professionals in Olathe, Kansas, Lori has developed relationships with a lot of area businesses who get involved each year with the tournament, as sponsors, participants, auction item donors and volunteers. She also involves many of her associates at AMP in various aspects of the planning of the event and gets her entire family involved as well. "Lori has made a tremendous impact on the chapter through the golf tournament over the past several years," said chapter president Brad Ziegler. "We have been fortunate to have her as a volunteer leader in many different capacities, but especially with this event. She has grown it to one of the largest golf events in the area and continues to bring new partners to the event to make sure it is a success."
