Lets Move Together Campaign

Let’s Move Together is a nationwide movement that kicked off in May in conjunction with the Arthritis Walks and Arthritis Awareness month. Led by the Arthritis Foundation, it encourages people to MOVE to prevent or treat arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability. It is an exciting campaign that will engage individuals and communities to join a year-round conversation about arthritis by extending the Arthritis Walk beyond a one-day event. To find out more or to join the movement, check out the Let's Move Together website.

Featured Volunteer Spotlight

The Circle of Friends is a local volunteer organization of women who are committed to a broad range of community service projects.  This group is known to be a hard-working, organized group of fun women who can tackle any project!

For more then 10 years this group has done over one hundred projects for many non-profits in the Richmond area.   Without fail, they show up twice a year to help our office tackle the daunting task of t-shirt folding and packet stuffing for the Jingle Bell Run and the Arthritis Walk.   This crew blows in the office with endless energy and get right down to business on the project at hand!  These ladies are some of the most organized and efficient volunteers we’ve worked with.  Their continued dedication to the Arthritis Foundation is greatly appreciated and we’re already looking forward to seeing them in the fall when they return for another project!

Arthritis Walk PANDAmonium in Williamsburg

At the 5th Annual Williamsburg Arthritis Walk the Arthritis Foundation teamed up with the Williamsburg alumnae chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority (AOII) to support the Panda Project for juvenile arthritis.  The Arthritis Foundation is the official national philanthropy of AOII.

Each year the Arthritis Foundation holds a Juvenile Arthritis conference for children with arthritis and other rheumatic diseases as well as their families.  The donated panda bears from the Arthritis Walk are going to be used during the conference this summer at a 'Teddy Bear Pain Clinic' where children take on the role of physician.  Here they are able to learn how to help their panda with pain management, give their panda shots, offer explanations of their disease and comfort the animal.  In order to have plenty of pandas for the clinic the AOII alumnae and Anne NiCastro, who spearheaded the project from the AOII side, asked participants to bring a stuffed panda with them to the Arthritis Walk.  Donation were also accepted to go toward the purchase of a stuffed panda.  After the first Panda Project in Williamsburg a total of 31 pandas were donated along with enough funds to purcahse 21 more bears.  Not only was this an excitng and successful addition to the event but the Williamsburg Arthritis Walk itself raised almost $40,000 and had a record number of participants at 416!

How do you search the internet?

What if the Arthritis Foundation earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Well, now we can! GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it's powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.

Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Arthritis Foundation, Virginia Chapter as the charity you want to support. Just 500 of us searching four times a day will raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime! And, be sure to spread the word!

Arthritis Awareness License Plate

The Arthritis Foundation, Virginia Chapter is currently looking into the possibility of working with the DMV to produce a special Arthritis Awareness license plate!   Would you be interested in having such a plate?   We must have 350 folks pre-register for the plate.   We are currently gauging interest.   If enough of our supporters are interested, we will proceed with designing and formally applying for the plate.   Please email Linda with your name, email address and phone number so that we can add you to the list of supporters who will be joining us on the road to a cure!
