        2009 Healthcare Reform Fly-In

The Arthritis Foundation  conducted a Health Care Reform Fly-In with arthritis advocates who have experienced challenges with the current health care system, such as:

  • accessing health care insurance (unable to purchase due to high cost or denied coverage);
  • difficulty paying for medical care (insurance premiums, copays, medications);
  • having significant medical debt.

Arthritis advocates visited their members of Congress to talk with them about their personal struggles with the health care system and to discuss the Arthritis Foundation position on Health Care Reform.

"My insurance through work is going up 20% with increased deductibles and out of pocket max. I can’t get rituxan; I have to try other things first. I worry with both my husband and I not getting even cost of living increases. How will we afford the new hike in health care?

I have had to rely on my parents to help me with costs, and sometimes put off doctor visits, tests or therapies, because of the expenses."
