2010 Advocacy & Kids’ Summit

Join the Arthritis Foundation in our nation’s capitol to let Congress know more needs to be done for people with arthritis.

The Advocacy & Kids’ Summit is the premiere event to learn about advocacy priorities for the upcoming year and to make a difference on behalf of the 46 million people and 300,000 kids with arthritis. Get trained on “how to advocate” and meet your members of Congress to educate them about the impact of arthritis on people’s lives.

Registration for the summit will be open the first week in November. Stay tuned for detailed instructions.

National Juvenile Arthritis Conference

It's time to start planning for the 2010 Juvenile Arthritis Conference in Philadelphia on July 29-August 1, 2010.

The Danielson family from Salt Lake City attended the 2008 conference on a scholarship from Abbott.  Five-year-old Audrey Danielson was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 13 months old.  Arthritis is all she knows – but she doesn’t let arthritis or anything else for that matter slow her down.  Audrey’s mother, Wendy, said it was incredible to be with other parents, especially mothers, who understood the emotions.  “We learned so much more than we ever could. The conference was  educational, informative, fun, and inspiring – we feel so much better equipped to deal with the challenges of having a child with arthritis.”

JA Highlighted at Congressional Hearing

Mikayla Minnig, shown here with Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard of CA, testified on March 18 before the House Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.

Mikayla's spoken testimony focused on her story, told on behalf of the nearly 300,000 other children with JA, as well as expressing the need for more JA research at the National Institute of Health. Meet Mikayla and read her testimony.
