2008 Austin Hero

Julie Domicoli

I was given the name Julia Marie on my "birth" day in Poughkeepsie, New York. When I was 18 months old, my family and I moved to Texas. A year later, my sister Jessica was born.  I started school at Child’s Way when I was two years old where I fell in love with my first rocking horse. I'm now at Bailey Middle School as an eighth grader. In all my years in school, this year is my favorite. I'm looking forward to high school and getting involved in theater.

Writing has always been one of my strengths and passions.  I used to write all sorts of stories and poems in spiral notebooks. I have a whole drawer full of notebooks!  Now, I just type up stories, since it’s easier to edit and revise. Plus, I love spell check! My goal is to enter essay contests.

I plan on going to a Christian college where I’d like to study one or more semesters overseas and get involved in mission work.  With my degree, I'd like to start a career as a psychologist, working with all ages, children to adults.

To me life is about living for Jesus. It’s about loving yourself and others, being positive and respectful. We should learn from our mistakes and use the talents we are blessed with. There are times that are hard, real tough, where you wonder why you are in such a difficult situation. But, you've got to think positive in order to be positive. You need to be strong and know that you can get through the tough times in life. Things will get better if you stay motivated, be determined, persevere, and have faith.
