I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis a month before my 20th birthday. After six months of hospital visits and incorrect diagnosis such as Bursitis and Tendonitis, I was finally tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis. No one thought that I could have RA!
The first rheumatologist made me feel awful. He treated me like I was ninety and put me on numerous meds I refused to take. He didn't explain anything to me and made me leave crying after every visit! During my final visit with him, he asked why I was wasting my time and money going to college. At that moment, I knew I needed a doctor who would support me and expect more of me than sitting at home the rest of my life! I switched doctors and now take Methotrexate every week and go to the doctor every two months for testing.
A year ago I had trouble opening doors, waking up, getting dressed - things a college student (and everyone) needs to do everyday! Today I have an amazing support system and couldn't be happier! I think it's so important for the world to know that anyone can get arthritis, regardless of age.
Come join me at the Arlington Arthritis Walk where we will raise money for research.
