Local Research
The Southern California Chapter is proud that with local and national funding, more than $1 million in arthritis research is currently going on in Southern California. Locally, the Southern California Chapter's research funding priorities are:
- Recruiting and sustaining pediatric rheumatologists;
- Encouraging young investigators to pursue research careers in the rheumatic diseases;
- Funding the research and development of new methods of improving the daily lives of people living with arthritis;
- Supporting innovative “bench science” and “clinical science” that, if successful, would lead to highly competitive research proposals for continued funding from other institutions;
- Improving the understanding of the genetic differences that contribute to the development of arthritis;
- Supporting research that advances the scientific knowledge regarding the cause, diagnosis, and treatment of lupus; and
- Funding the study and development of new treatments that lessen pain and improve physical function.
