Volunteer Opportunities
The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
The San Diego Area Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation is currently recruiting for the following volunteer positions:
Resource Development Department
Special Events Volunteer
Job Qualifications: The volunteer will play an important role in facilitating the work of the Resource Development Staff and the Special Events Manager. He/She must be highly motivated, creative, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks under pressure while remaining flexible and resourceful; have strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; be dedicated and loyal; able to manage additional tasks consistent with those already described as delegated. Pride in one's work and a sense of humor are a must. Ability to work 20 to 30 hours a week.Required education necessary to perform job: Arthritis Foundation volunteer orientation
General Office Volunteer
Job Qualifications: The volunteer will play an important role in facilitating the work of the entire Foundation office staff. He/She must be highly motivated, creative, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks under pressure while remaining flexible and resourceful; have strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; be dedicated and loyal; able to manage additional tasks consistent with those already described as delegated. Computer and database experience a plus (Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Pride in one's work and a sense of humor are a must. Ability to work three to five hours a week.Required education necessary to perform job: Arthritis Foundation volunteer orientation
Program & Services
Self-Help Course Leader
Job Qualifications: The Self-Help course is a health education program designed to promote changes in behavior and self-efficacy that are conducive to health. Professionals are readily available for consultation. Two trained leaders are required to lead the course. It is recommended that one of the leaders have arthritis, the other is required to be a health professional, educator, social worker or equivalent (active or retired). An exception may be made if the leader has a medical background and has arthritis.Required education necessary to perform job: Arthritis Foundation Self-Help Leader Training in a specific field; Arthritis Self-Help Course (ASHCF); Fibromyalgia Self-Help (FSHC) or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Self-Help (SLESH).
Speaker's Bureau
Job Qualifications: Articulate professional, or lay person possess current knowledge of arthritis and related conditions willing to drive to speaking engagements throughout San Diego County or Imperial Counties. Arthritis Month Speakers are asked to make various presentations throughout the month of May. Must have knowledge of the Arthritis Foundation's programs and services and the different types of arthritis. Bi-lingual volunteers a plus.Required education necessary to perform job: Arthritis Foundation Speaker's Bureau Training.
Health Fair Volunteer
Job Qualifications: Outgoing personality, willingness to drive to locations throughout San Diego or Imperial Counties, good organizational skills, articulate, comfortable speaking in public, professional attire. Must attend at least one health fair with trained personnel/volunteer prior to presenting at health fairs alone or with another new volunteer. Knowledge in the area being highlighted (i.e., JA, RA, OA etc.). Should be knowledgeable about the Arthritis Foundation's programs and services and different types of arthritis. Bi-lingual volunteers a plus.Rquired education necessary to perform job: High School Graduate, Arthritis Foundation Volunteer orientation
Juvenile Arthritis Camp Counselor
Job Qualifications: Minimum 18 years old, High School Graduate, may have arthritis. Contact the Foundation chapter office for additional information.Required education necessary to perform job: High School Graduate, Volunteer Counselor Orientation and Training, CPR certification.
Additional Requirements: Fingerprinting/background check.

The qualified candidate must be highly motivated, creative, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks under pressure while remaining flexible and resourceful; have strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; be dedicated and loyal; able to manage additional tasks consistent with those already described as delegated. Pride in one's work and a sense of humor are a must. Ability to work 20 to 30 hours a week. Proof of student status required. Senior/Junior classification.
