Job Openings
The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
Purpose:
The purpose of the internship program at the Arthritis Foundation North Central Chapter is to provide students the opportunity to apply their academic education and skill in a profession work environment. Additionally, internship students help expand the chapter resources by contributing to program development and implementation at all levels of non-profit operations. This internship will also offer students real world experience in the area of nonprofit organizations.
Scope:
There are several intern positions within the Chapter and cover such topics as health promotions, special events, public relations/marketing, and graphic design. Depending upon the needs of the Chapter at any given time, one or all of the positions may need to be filled. There is a year-round need for interns. While there are unique intern positions already formed, a customized internship may be arranged depending upon the student’s academic and professional goals. Students who are at the Junior or Senior year of college are most appropriate for our program. In some instances, a graduate student may be an appropriate candidate for an internship. The internships do not provide a stipend but mileage reimbursement is provided for travel pertaining to Chapter business.
What are the supervision arrangements for interns?
Interns receive two levels of supervision. First, there is an Internship Supervisor who coordinates the training and overall activities involved in proper placement of the internship candidate. Once these arrangements are finalized, the intern will work within a Chapter department and receive daily supervision and assignments from the staff in that department. On a weekly basis the intern will meet with the Internship Supervisor to monitor progress towards goals and objectives, and overall satisfaction with his/her experience.
The Internship Supervisor also serves as the liaison between the University or College, the Chapter, the student, and the department head. If there is paperwork to be completed, such as evaluations or periodic reports, these materials should be forwarded to the Internship Supervisor.
How does a student apply for an internship position?
An application must be completed and sent to the Chapter. All supporting documents must be enclosed with the application. Qualified candidates will be asked to interview with the Internship Supervisors. This will provide the student with a “real-world” interview experience. Candidates who are selected for this program will be notified by telephone and in writing. Candidates who are not selected for a position will be sent a letter stating this.
