On Land or in Water

You can take advantage of PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise), a program of the New York Chapter that uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility, improve range of motion, and maintain muscle strength. Or you can join the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program. Developed with the YMCA, this warm water exercise course helps relieve the strain on muscles and joints.

Each program is taught by trained personnel, and provides a friendly, supportive atmosphere where you can meet new friends. These small, inexpensive classes will also enable you to help stay as active as possible and develop more control over your arthritis.

These regular programs are available and designed to help you develop mobility and confidence. But first, check with your doctor to be sure you find the program that's right for you. For more information about locations, dates, and other specific details regarding PACE and Aquatic classes, contact us at info.ny@arthritis.org or visit our online Program Calendar.

The More You Know

The more you can help yourself. Another great move you can make to help you control your arthritis is to check out the wide variety of books, brochures, videotapes, programs and other information available from the New York Chapter.

Helpline for Movers

For questions about exercise or other topics you can make direct telephone contact with the New York Arthritis Exchange™ telephone helpline. Just call (212) 984-8730 between 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, for information on exercise, medication, or treatment. Trained professionals and volunteers do not replace your own doctor, but they will be glad to answer questions and help you flex, bend, and make the move toward living better with arthritis.
