What is a Team?
A team is a group of five or more walkers joining together to raise money to fight arthritis. Team members can include co-workers, friends, family members, clients, vendors-anyone! Team participation is FUN and EASY!
How is a Team Formed?
Establish a team captain who will recruit and lead the team. Leading a team is easy, and involves setting fundraising goals, supplying registration and donation forms and motivating and inspiring team members. The Arthritis Foundation will provide you with a complete "Team Captain Kit" with everything you need to get started.
10 Steps to Building a Winning Team?
- Set a goal for your team! Raise at least $100 each and try to recruit at least 10 team members.
- Hang posters and sign-up sheets in central locations around your office or school. Be sure to list your team captain as the primary contact and include your telephone number and e-mail address.
- Spread the word! Send out e-mails, memos, and voicemails requesting particpationg. Put an article in your company or community newsletter.
- Host an informational meeting. Educate people about the Arthritis Walk and how they can make a difference.
- Build team spirit! Encourage some friendly competition among employees/departments by issuring an Arthritis Walk challenge.
- Follow up with your team's fundraising progress. Answer questions and address concerns. Provide them with a list of successful fund-raising tips. Remind your team members about company matching. This is an easy way to double your fund-raising dollars.
- Determine whether your team will wear a uniform/team t-shirt at the event. A team shirt can be a great way to stand out the day of the event.
- Remind co-workers, family and friends that May is National Arthritis Month. Ask them to honor the 46 million people who suffer from Arthritis pain by making a donation.
- Thank your team members for their commitment to help lead the fight against arthritis.
- Walk proudly with your team on event day!

10 Easy Fundraising Tips
- Set a goal for yourself and for your team! (Minimum of $100 per walker).
- Collect donations at the time you ask for them.
- Ask co-workers, friends, family members and neightbors to support you. Remember to ask about company matching.
- Ask a business you frequent to support you.
- Contact your company's suppliers/vendors.
- Ask a club or group you belong to, to donate.
- Make your own donation.
- Challenge another department at work to see who can raise the most money.
- Raffle off a company parking space or day off.
- Hold a fundraiser at work or school. Host a bake sale, dress down day, silent auction, etc.
