 Arthritis Foundation Michigan Chapter
Research Grant Program

The Arthritis Foundation offers an integrated Nationwide Research Program – harnessing all of its resources behind a focused menu of grants and awards. The program includes a single on-line application process, a uniform peer review process and a consistent selection process to assure the research community that the most promising projects will be funded. The Arthritis Foundation Michigan Chapter aligns its research program and its research grant options with that of the National Arthritis Foundation.

Grant specifications for both the National and Chapter research grant programs are released as of November 21, 2008 for the 2009 – 2010 funding cycle, with applications due on February 6, 2009.  Click here for Michigan's specifications.   Or contact Barbara Spreitzer-Berent, Vice President for Health Promotion and Advocacy, who has responsibility for the Michigan Chapter research program at 1-248-649-2891 x 224 or Bberent@arthritis.org

Research Awards

Among volunteer health agencies, the Arthritis Foundation is noted nationally and internationally for its “gold standard” peer review process. All grants funded by the National Arthritis Foundation or by the Michigan Chapter are scored and ranked in this peer review. The highest scoring research project proposals are funded, limited only by the research budget available in that given year. The quality of research is such in Michigan that many grant proposals receive funding from the National Arthritis Foundation. The Arthritis Foundation Michigan Chapter allocates a research budget each year targeted to highest quality chapter grants and fellowships.
