Arthritis Answers™ Staff and Volunteers Speak About Their Role:

“I recently spoke with a woman, newly diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). She was struggling with her diagnosis, the new medications, and the conflicting advice and opinions of family and friends. She saw an article about Arthritis Answers™ in the newspaper and she called us right away. Having RA myself, I understood the overwhelming effect of a new diagnosis and how it impacts your life. I was able to sympathize with her anxiety and provide her with information regarding her diagnosis, a drug guide to help familiarize her with common medications used to treat arthritis, information pamphlets to learn more about the role of a healthy diet and active lifestyle, and serve as a friendly voice who understands. It was clear to me that by the end of the conversation, she felt relieved.  I could sense she was eager to receive information to educate herself about her diagnosis, better understand her medications and learn more about topics that her family and friends had suggested.  I am proud to have helped someone feel less anxious about their diagnosis and be better prepared to take control and successfully manage their arthritis!”
