Podcast Series on Women’s Health Issues Set for October

ARLINGTON, VA (September 30, 2009) – During the month of October, the national health calendar raises the awareness of a variety of important women’s health issues, ranging from breast cancer and caring for newborns to bone and joint health.   Health Matters at WorkTM, a program of Community Health Charities, has partnered with the Arthritis Foundation, Breast Cancer Network of Strength and the March of Dimes Foundation to provide a powerful informational video podcast series designed to reach women in the workplace. The Women’s Health series shares insights and information about the many resources these three organizations provide to help women live healthier lives.

“Connecting women to the information, support and resources they need to face a diagnosis of breast cancer is critical. The Health Matters at Work TM program by Community Health Charities is another great tool in accomplishing our mission to ensure, through information, the empowerment and peer support women need so no one faces breast cancer alone,” said Margaret C. Kirk, President & CEO, Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

“Bone and joint health issues affect women at a disproportionately higher rate then men. A majority of the 2.1 million Americans affected by Rheumatoid arthritis are women. At the same time, American women are four times more likely to develop osteoporosis than men.  Whether it’s at home or in the workplace, the Arthritis Foundation offers information and tools to help people live a better life with arthritis, “said Patience White, M.D., Chief Public Health Officer, Arthritis Foundation.

"The birth of a baby is a joyous occasion and we want every baby to be born healthy,'' said March of Dimes Foundation President Dr. Jennifer L. Howse. “Every occasion we have to reach women and their families in the workplace with useful tools and resources is another opportunity to improve the chances for a healthy birth."

“Smart companies know their employees are its most valuable resource. A healthy workforce is an essential part of a healthy business and a healthy bottom line. Health Matters at Work TM enhances the ability of employers, employees and their loved ones to connect to credible information and resources to improve their health and their lives,” said Thomas G. Bognanno, President & CEO, Community Health Charities of America. To get your company involved with Health Matters at Work TM, please contact your local Community Health Charities representative.

A total of 26 video podcasts have been developed with the support of numerous Community Health Charities members, including American Lung Association, Autism Speaks, Mental Health America, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and more than 50 other leading health charities in America. View and subscribe to the series at www.healthmattersatwork.org.
