Welcome!
Our mission: To improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
Want to Fight Arthritis Pain? Dance, Baby!
Remember that old Ad Council campaign: Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires? Well, only YOU can prevent arthritis pain. As part of the Arthritis Foundation's mission to improve arthritis prevention and control through self-leadership, we have partnered with the Ad Council to unleash a new campaign to fight arthritis pain. Whether it’s researching the latest dance moves, taking a walk around the block during lunch or getting your feet wet at your local REC center pool – EXERCISE IS PROVEN TO PREVENT AND REDUCE ARTHRITIS PAIN. For more information, click here or find us on Twitter @FightOAPain. Moving IS the best medicine, so... Let's move together!
'Make Arthritis Extinct Like Dinosaurs'
Although many New Year's resolutions involve losing weight, quitting smoking and exercising more, 2010 Arthritis Walk Child Champion, Drew Meisegeier was thinking much BIGGER: "I want to raise money so people who create machines to help people who are diagnosed with something like arthritis can create machines so that arthritis becomes extinct, like dinosaurs.
Join Drew and the Arthritis Foundation community as we plan BIG and ensure the largest Arthritis Walk in the Cenozoic era at the Washington Monument on Saturday, May 15th. Last year, despite personal struggles and economic circumstances, our volunteers, sponsors and participants broke through barriers and hosted the most successful Arthritis Walk in the nation's capital. This year, they plan to raise even more money to finally put an end to the monstrous pain of arthritis... just like the dinosaurs! Currently Seeking Volunteers and Interns
Most recently, President Barack Obama called upon the American people to lend a hand as the charitable sector continues to try and do more with less during these difficult economic times. Volunteers serve as the backbone to the Arthritis Foundation and without them, we would cease to exist. The Metropolitan Washington Chapter is calling for individuals to support its mission in a variety of ways from special events and program delivery to office management. For a current list of volunteer opportunities, please click here. We are also accepting applications for future internship positions. Interested candidates may click here for additional details.
As once stated by Albert Einstein, "It is high time that the ideal of success should be replaced by the ideal of service."
Want a Cure for Arthritis? Do Something About It.

Grassroots advocacy is key to helping individuals living with arthritis. Not only does it ensure government support for arthritis-based programs, but it helps guarantee funding for arthritis research which will hopefully, one day lead us to a cure. Many people do not realize that arthritis research will only be publicly funded if people with arthritis pledge their support for the Arthritis Prevention Control and Cure Act. Congress has no incentive to pass the Act if even people with arthritis remain impassive to the legislation. Even children as young as ten are getting involved to spread awareness about arthritis and to increase support for the Arthritis Foundation! Mikayla Minnig, a ten year-old living with arthritis, recently represented the Arthritis Foundation as well as the 46 million adults and 300,000 children affected by the nation’s most common cause of disability on the Hill.
