Congratulations to Kansas State Men's Basketball Coach Frank Martin and the volunteers and participants in the Manhattan Arthritis Walk. They won this year's Coaches Challenge Trophy. The April 26 event in Manhattan raised more money for arthritis programs and research than the Arthritis Walk in Lawrence. Bill Self, coach of the 2008 NCAA National Champion Jayhawks, captained a "Rivals for a Cure" team for the Lawrence event.
The coaches promoted a friendly Wildcat-Jayhawk rivalry between the two Arthritis Walk events. Wildcat fans joined Coach Martin for the Manhattan Arthritis Walk and raised nearly $30,000, while Jayhawk supporters became members of Coach Self’s team for the Lawrence Arthritis Walk which raised almost $27,000.
Chris Piper, a member of the 1988 NCAA championship team and current Jayhawk radio broadcaster, shares what it is like being a parent of a child with Juvenile Arthritis. Listen to the full radio interview with WHB’s Kevin Kietzman on Kansas City's “Between the Lines” as they discuss Rivals for a Cure.
