New Director

We are so pleased to announce Nora Baldner as the new director for the West Central Branch of the Arthritis Foundation.  Nora has been an anchor person and most recently columnist and assignment editor for WGEM in Quincy for many years.  Her volunteer work with the Arthritis Foundation for the past 14 years has been invaluable.  She is the impetus behind both of our annual ladies golf tournaments - Quincy and Macomb - and an integral part of our annual Arthritis Telethon.  She begins her new career as director January 2, 2009.  Welcome, Nora!

Gem City Gymnastics hosts a USA Gymnastics sanctioned meet for teams from around Illinois.  Participating clubs compete to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation.  Educational materials and fun events will be available at the meet from the West Central Illinois branch.

 

 

 


 24th Annual Arthritis Foundation Telethon

April 5, 2009
2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

This spring Telethon is  four-hour live educational program broadcast by WGEM-TV.  Divided into topic segments, material covered includes most recent updates on Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, JRA, Osteoporosis, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Joint Replacement, Arthritis Research, and Medications and Treatments.  The program, hosted by four news anchor personalities, includes interviews with local physicians, patients, and a variety of health professionals.


Arthritis Walk

The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation's nationwide event celebrating May as National Arthritis Month.  The Arthritis Walk will feature a local honoree, exhibits, an arthritis wellness center, refreshments and prizes.  It's purpose is to honor friends and family who suffer with arthritis and raise arthritis awareness in our community.  This will be the third year that the Arthritis Walk will be held in Pittsfield, IL.  Register now!

The name lent to this 18-hole all ladies tournament belongs to a former WGEM news anchor who has had both her hips replaced due to osteoarthritis.  Nora is now the Branch Director for the West Central Illiois Arthritis Foundation.  This will be the 14th year for the tournament at the Macomb Country Club, which includes a celebrity caddy auction the preivious evening, golf, and an awards luncheon following the game.  The event normally hosts 20-24 teams. Arthritis Seminar

This seminar, Impact Arthritis 2009, is open to the public for a full morning of information and education on the most common forms of arthritis and arthritis related topics such as drug tremants, health living through exercise, diet, pain and stress management.  Either a physician or a health care professional presents each topic.  During registration and the "stretch and stroll" session, participants have the opportunity to browse the booths of companies and organziations that offer services or products geared toward this area of interest.  Register online now!

 


 

Jingle Bell Run / Walk for Arthritis

the 19th annual certified 5K Run/Walk and Fun Walk for Arthritis includes an awards ceremony and door prize give-away.  Participants are encourages to form teams and raise funds for the Arthritis Foundation.  They receive Jingle Bell Run T-shirts with sponsor logos, jingle bells for their running shoes, a "goodie bag", and a Race Day Journal with health related articles, advertisements, event information.  This race attracts between 400 - 450 participants.
