Juvenile Arthritis Camp
July 19 - 24, 2009
For many young people, camp changes their life, not just for a week, but for a lifetime. The Arthritis Foundation Arkansas Chapter gives children with arthritis the opportunity to make those lifetime memories. The week long juvenile arthritis camp focuses on what campers can do, not what they can’t do. Campers are able to learn from others who have similar conditions and experiences. The program is designed to increase campers’ self-esteem by creating opportunities for them to meet personal challenges.
The camp offers most traditional summer camp activities such as campfires and singing, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, swimming and nature hikes. The camp also has activities that create more of a personal challenge, while adapting to children of all abilities. Some of these activities include: accessible rope challenge course, hand/foot driven catamarans, and adapted archery. All of these things create opportunities for individual accomplishment in a positive and encouraging environment.
