Valley Elementary/Valley Intermediate School Holds Trick or Treat Trot / Fun Run

March 28, 2008

The 5th annual Valley Elementary/Valley Intermediate School Trick or Treat Trot (a one-mile fun run) was held October 20 at 9:00 a.m. at Pelham City Park with a great crowd of runners and walkers.  The goal of the fun run is to empower families to lead healthy lives, while also benefiting the millions of people who suffer from arthritis.  Over $4,000 was raised through the efforts of the children and teachers of these schools.

"We started this run when one of our kindergarten students was diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis as a way to bring awareness to our students that arthritis is not just an disease that impacts older persons, but instead can afflict anyone of any age,” said Ginger Aaron, the school’s physical education teacher.  “We use this as a platform to teach acceptance, diversity, and compassion to our students. Through this event we have created a very close relationship with the Arthritis Foundation. Sydney, our initial cause for organizing this event, is now a 5th grade student at Valley Intermediate School."

The Run for Arthritis School Program is available for your school. Participating schools have the option of keeping 20% of funds raised through the Run for Arthritis Program for their schools.  For more information, contact the Arthritis Foundation, Alabama Chapter at info.al@arthritis.org.
