After leading the U.S. men's basketball team to Olympic gold last year and two weeks before the start of his 30th season as head coach of Duke University's men's basketball team, Mike Krzyzewski — Coach K — is teaming up with the Arthritis Foundation to help raise awareness of the disease that nearly ended his coaching career 10 years ago.

"Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?"

Recording artist and Season 5 American Idol finalist Bucky Covington took the “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” challenge to benefit the Arthritis Foundation, and donated his $25,000 winnings to the Tennessee Chapter.
He selected the Foundation as his charity of choice, because he knows first-hand about the effects of a chronic illness on his family. “Just like any good student would do, I called my mom first after the class ended,” said Covington. “Arthritis hits close to home with our family and I had to let her know about the A+ win!”

Herb Shows Potential for Rheumatoid Arthritis

An ancient Chinese herbal remedy called "thunder god vine" helps reduce inflammation in people with rheumatoid arthritis, a new study shows. "This study is a reminder of the potential importance of supplements and herbs in the management of arthritis," said John H. Klippel, M.D. president and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation. Even so, the study involved a relatively small number of people, Klippel noted. "The findings are encouraging, but [TwHF] is not likely to be recommended by rheumatologists based on the findings of this one study alone," Klippel said.

FDA Panel Urges Tough Controls on Acetaminophen Painkillers

An advisory panel to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommended to lower the maximum dose of over-the-counter acetaminophen, while urging a ban of prescription drugs like Vicodin or Percocet, which combine the painkiller with an opiate narcotic.
