The Arthritis Foundation’s Public Policy and Advocacy Department is offering travel awards to volunteers who reside in targeted Congressional districts listed below attend the 2013 Advocacy Summit. The Summit is held in Washington, D.C., March 4-6th, 2013.
Travel awards will cover Summit registration and the cost of the trip for participants including travel, accommodations, food and incidentals. Travel Award winners will receive a packet of information in the mail regarding registration, how to book flights, hotel reservations and reimbursement for food and incidentals.
Volunteers residing in target districts (grade K through adults) may apply for awards. Awards granted to school aged children (K-12th grade only) with will also cover the cost of one accompanying adult.
Only minors currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 12th grade will be allowed to attend the Summit.
Applications must be received by Thursday, December 20th, 2012 at 5pm EST. All applicants will be notified on Tuesday January 8th 2013 of their application.
If selected to receive a travel award volunteers must agree to the following:
- Recipients must be a member of or willing to become a member of the Arthritis Foundation Advocacy Network and/or the AF Ambassador program.
- Recipients must arrive at the Summit within a reasonable time to attend all Summit related trainings and programs, and participate in all Capitol Hill meetings scheduled on their behalf.
- If the recipient fails to attend the Advocacy Summit they are responsible for reimbursing the Arthritis Foundation for their registration fee. Exceptions will be made for unexpected emergencies.
Arthritis Foundation staff are not eligible to receive these volunteer travel awards.
