What is expected of an Arthritis Ambassador?
— Participate in monthly conference calls with Arthritis Foundation staff
— Each month Ambassadors will be assigned an advocacy task to perform for the month and will report back the results by using the online reporting tool at http://www. soapboxconsulting.com/arthritis/arthritisJuly.html
— Attend the Advocacy and Kids’ Summit in Washington, D.C., March 2-4, 2009 and March 1-3, 2010
Examples of Tasks:
Recruit new and active advocates in key congressional districts.
Promote AF public policy priorities and advocacy at local chapter events such as the Arthritis Walk.
Contact Members of Congress concerning the legislative priorities of the Arthritis Foundation.
Attend local Town Hall Meetings sponsored by a Member of Congress and make appointments to meet the Member in his or her local district office throughout the year.
Invite and encourage Members of Congress to participate in AF local events.
Write and submit letters to the local newspaper concerning arthritis-related issues.
Attend the Advocacy and Kids’ Summit in Washington, D.C.
Why become an Arthritis Ambassador?
— Ambassadors will have an opportunity to further engage and learn more about public policy and advocacy and become pivotal links to Members of Congress. It is the next critical step in raising awareness with policymakers that arthritis affects 46 million Americans and 300,000 children.
— The chance to connect monthly with others who have an enthusiasm for advocacy and to learn from each other’s success.
