Career Opportunity: Director, Advocacy

The Director, Advocacy, under the direction of the Chief Public Policy Officer, is accountable for initiating, planning and executing the AF legislative/regulatory agenda focused on influencing the insurance industry, Congress, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Food and Drug Administration on behalf of people with arthritis. The Director will interact with chapters and grassroots advocates in developing and coordinating a national strategy to implement the AF national objectives related to access to care (providers, medications, treatments and therapies). The Director needs to be comfortable with limited supervision and be highly motivated to succeed.

Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of public policy/advocacy/regulatory analysis experience in government, non-profit or corporate setting is required. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the United States health care system. Must have demonstrated policy analysis skills; comfort and familiarity with reading and analyzing legislation and regulation and advanced analytical and writing skills, to guide the creation and development of Foundation policy is necessary. Selected candidate will use their expertise in the U.S. health insurance system and knowledge of specific health coverage issues affecting people with arthritis in order to analyze, develop, and recommend Foundation policies and positions on federal legislative and regulatory activities and priorities. Must have strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills and the ability to travel and work independently.
