Development Manager - Sacramento, CA

Job Summary
Arthritis Foundation, Pacific Region seeks an individual to manage fundraising events in the greater Sacramento, CA area.

The Development Manager is responsible for fundraising and logistics coordination associated with all special events in the Greater Sacramento area under the direction of the Executive Director. Such events include but are not limited to:  Walk to Cure Arthritis and Jingle Bell Run as well as a small golf tournament.

This person will work with the Executive Director to secure and develop participants, teams, honorees, sponsorship, and volunteers for Arthritis Walk, Jingle Bell Run and other local events. This role will also include heavy stewardship and cultivation of existing constituents to maximize their fundraising and their commitment to the Arthritis Foundation.

Employee will also be responsible for general administration of office located in Sacramento, CA.  These duties will include Board meeting coordination and minutes, materials purchasing, and working with vendors to ensure overall office and equipment upkeep.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Executive Director with all aspects of fundraising activities to meet goals and objectives for the organization
  2. Assist the Executive Director in identifying, cultivating and securing teams and sponsors for the Arthritis Walk, JBR and other events. Steward existing constituents.
  3. Assist the Executive Director in identifying, cultivating and securing honorees for the Walk to Cure Arthritis and Jingle Bell Run
  4. Adhere to all event best practices.
  5. Recruit, manage, train and motivate volunteers for the office, fundraising events and Committees to reach the goals and objectives for the organization.
  6. Create and maintain relationships with event participants and help engage them in our mission and our fundraising goals
  7. Assist the Executive Director as directed with prospecting and cultivation of potential Advisory Board Members.
  8. Oversee general administration of the Sacramento office.
  9. Achieve a solid command of the Arthritis Foundation’s mission, programs and offerings and be able to articulate the benefits of these programs to potential community partners and sponsors.
  10. Manage financial resources within the established budget to ensure goals are achieved.
  11. Act in the best interest of the Arthritis Foundation to enhance the Arthritis Foundation’s public image.
  12. Assist the Executive Director with other duties as assigned.

  • Education:
    Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of successful volunteer management, office administration and/or fundraising experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Computer Skills:
    In order to perform this job successfully,  the individual should have excellent/accurate typing skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; experience with standard office machinery;
  • Communication Skills:
    In order to perform this job successfully one must pay close attention to detail; possess excellent oral and written communication skills including spelling, grammar, and punctuation, editing and proofreading skills.  Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.  
  • Other:
    Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others, strong organizational, time management and project/meeting management skills.  Experience with all aspects of a comprehensive fund-raising plan, including special events, volunteer recruitment, corporate development, sponsorship, public speaking and solicitation.  Experience in volunteer recruitment, development and management.  Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a positive focused manner and remain composed under stress.  Ability to cultivate and maintain long-term donor/constituent relationships. .  Ability to work independently and within a team environment as a motivated self-starter with limited supervision.  
  • Language Skills:
    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers or employees of orgaanization.
  • Travel:
    Frequent daily travel required to meet with donors, volunteers and sponsors. Travel for National, Regional or local trainings, events, and meetings. Higher frequency during event peak season.
  • Salary Range: $52K
