Accounting Associate | Atlanta

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Associate will perform accounting tasks such as billing revenue based on contracts, coding and recording accounting transactions, compiling financial records and preparing and submitting various state and federal filings.  They will support their colleagues in the Foundation’s accounting department as well as work on special projects as assigned.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform various accounting tasks such as handling checks, organizing financial records, coding documents, preparing revenue invoices.
  • Prepare, verify, and process invoices for revenue according to contract terms.
  • Record and reconcile revenue, receipts, and receivables.  Maintain the accounts receivable ledger and accounts receivable aging.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly or annual financial statements and reports detailing paid and unpaid invoices and other accounts receivable activity
  • Provide assistance by replying to queries, providing information and ensuring follow-up.
  • Assists in month end closing
  • Maintain electronic files and documentation thoroughly and accurately in accordance with company policy and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Provide support to staff and management in the Foundation’s accounting department
  • Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Assists with other projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by Vice President, Finance or Controller

 REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelors of Accounting degree required.
  • 2+ years of accounting work experience preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles, regulatory standards and compliance requirement
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills. Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
  • Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts receivable/general ledger systems and procedures, and financial chart of accounts.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately
